Philanthropy

The Alpha Phi Foundation

In 1956, Alpha Phi became one of the first women’s fraternities to establish a foundation, the Alpha Phi Foundation. It was created to award scholarships and promote cardiac aid. The Alpha Phi Foundation's mission is to advance women's lives through the power of philanthropy and focuses their efforts on heart health, the #1 killer of women.

In addition to investing in the advancement of women’s heart health, the Alpha Phi Foundation focuses on four other vital programs:

  • Supporting innovative leadership training and programming led by Alpha Phi;

  • Awarding scholarships to undergraduate and graduate Alpha Phis;

  • Helping members in need through the Forget-Me-Not Grant Fund; and

  • Celebrating the forward-thinking women that shaped Alpha Phi by preserving our rich heritage.

The women of UNF Alpha Phi support the Alpha Phi Foundation and its mission in several ways, whether donating money and time toward the cardiac care center of Wolfson Children's Hospital, volunteering with the American Heart Association or hosting fundraising events on campus and in the Jacksonville community.

Mac n Phis

We held our first ever Mac n Phis philanthropy event during the Fall semester. Mac n Phis is an event in which we sell tickets to our friends and fellow Ospreys so they can come enjoy Mac n Cheese ,cheer on the Mr. Heartthrob talent competition and support our philanthropy...all at the same time! In Fall 2021, UNF Alpha Phi raised more than $2,500 for the Alpha Phi Foundation and women's heart health.

Alpha Phifa

Held annually each spring, Alpha Phifa is our philanthropy event in which all UNF Greek organizations participate in a soccer tournament for heart health. By the end of the elimination tournament, one sorority and fraternity is crowned Alpha Phifa winner. It's always a great time and raises money for a great cause.

Cardiac Arrest

To kick off Heart Health Week, we host our annual "Cardiac Arrest" event on the campus green where fraternity and sorority presidents, as well as faculty members from UNF, are "arrested" and put in "Alpha-Traz!" These individuals have have to raise enough money to "make bail" through donations toward the Alpha Phi Foundation and women's heart health.

Community Service

Throughout the semester Alpha Phi participates in many different community service events. From beach clean-ups to volunteering at Hope's Closet or Feeding Northeast Florida and reading books to the preschoolers at UNF, Alpha Phi is always looking for a way to support the Jacksonville community.
